Religion

I grew up in a Catholic family, thankfully as much as my parents were religious, they weren't super forceful, at least since living in NY.

My story with religion is big, however, I think it's important to make and state some differences.

I'm an apatheist, I don't care if there's a god or not. I don't have any resentments towards the gods. And I know that simply being nonreligious won't make me smart, at all.

Frankly, I'd like to share some of my findings. I've read so so so much about religions, not just the one I was born into, but others that are extinct and also those minorly practiced until these days that are disappearing.

There's so many things I want to add into the religions section, but I don't know if I want to make it informational only? filled with my notes and questions? a mix? Only notes? Only questions? Timelines? Only based on the East or West or just about everything? Well…. I doubt I could do that, at least in a few months…

Just comparing the religious books within the Christian derivative religions will be a headache, even more because there's still outgoing fights on which church was the first one. I'm not sure if I should also add notes about verses that were added recently or translated ‘incorrectly’ — what that even would mean since I don't speak any of those languages, or if I should just add the compiled books that were taken out entirely from the Bible. It's a complicated topic as in the social sciences and demographic locations, centuries we'd be speaking about and even evidence that has been found when it comes to old religions and how it's interpreted….

Yeah, it's a lot, but my goals aren't to turn anyone against religion, or well — their god and faith, but just to add more information that they might have been restricted from accessing. I took a lot of my time trying to make it make a bit of sense, but the goal isn't to find an answer to believe in God, as it's not to find an excuse to not to.

I simply don't care. It's irrelevant to me. If I'll do good I'll do it for doing it not because of a promise of heaven or the fears of hell. I don’t want to find a connection to god when I need its help. And I don’t want to believe just for fear… That sounds extremely depressing.

It's just information on how people have tried to understand the world and cope with the feelings and reactions we've developed so far…

I also wonder if other species believe in their own versions of hell and heaven… It'll be interesting to see if they act purely on instinct and survival needs or because they are doing acts of love and kindness.

Are humans even acting on kindness because of survival? because they're really just that good? because they're afraid? because they want it done to them back? Because it makes them happy? Yet, how would that be asked if it's when they do something deemed as “evil” and under what definitions of it?

Yeah, I'm getting out of topics perhaps, and I don't really think I'm open to debate on the matter, I just don't care. If my actions are good, I want to be good because of what the action does, not because I want to be praised or feel like I'm closer to God, but if doing it makes me close to it, then I'm okay with the results. I'll assume that God will be happier with my doings rather than overuse of its name in vain or finger pointing while violating those rules — you know, at least the 10 main ones, which are often used by people attempting to judge in the name of God, when they are mere humans, like myself.

Anyways, I'll do it with time, but I'll leave some stuff here for the moment.

Books

I have at least skimmed these books.

These books have been read either with physical copies, online lending, through the library or other sources.

Important:

I want to preface this list of books and resources by mentioning that I haven't engaged with this material for several years. I began collecting and compiling these resources, mostly in English, between the ages of 13 and 18, which was also when I was just starting to read in the language. However, despite gathering them, I never actually read them to completely understand or analyze them, it was mostly to see what is out there.

Even though there’s a lot of things, I still believe that I come shorthanded with this page, but again, maybe I’ll do something bigger later.
